Buildathon platform offering long-term, milestone-based funding instead of weekend hackathons, used by ecosystems to grow developer communities.
AKINDO runs what it calls Buildathons: long-term, milestone-driven programmes intended to replace short-term hackathons, closed grant programmes and one-way accelerators. In its own words it goes beyond hackathons and accelerators by offering long-term, milestone-based support to turn projects into ecosystem-native applications, helping partners build lasting developer communities.
The model is deliberately different from a weekend hack. A Buildathon runs in repeated Waves over months rather than days, judged on progress rather than a single demo, with funds released per milestone rather than as one lump-sum prize. Builders submit a project, build across Waves, get evaluated by the core team and community, and earn continuously. Ecosystems define goals, deposit funds, review feedback and let allocation follow demonstrated progress.
The underlying protocol is WaveHack, which handles proof-of-build evaluation and on-chain funding. Ecosystems and infrastructure projects run their programmes on the platform, so many of the buildathons listed elsewhere on Dapping use an AKINDO page as their registration and submission channel.
