What it funds
Scientific, technological, economic and legal research advancing financial inclusion, fast and inexpensive cross-border payments, efficient decentralized markets and other beneficial applications of blockchain technology.
What it does not fund
Literature reviews and work without a novel scientific contribution. Individuals, students, consultants, for-profit businesses and non-degree-granting institutions are ineligible.
Amounts
Maximum 150,000 USD. The rough historical average of funded proposals is 75,000 USD.
Who is eligible
Applicants must hold PI status at a degree-granting institution whose primary mission is research or higher education, and the institution must confirm authorization to lead the research.
How to apply
A PDF of no more than 3 pages at 11-point type or larger, covering title, abstract, PI biography, PI authorization statement, technical proposal, budget, student or postdoc name if known, a non-patenting statement with patenting track record, bibliography, and prior award outcomes or a re-submission explanation where applicable. Review timeline
Submission deadlines are 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December, with a maximum of two submissions per calendar year. Reviews are quarterly.
